The Physician Assistant Department at Quinnipiac University invites applications for the Director of Entry Level Masters of Physician Assistant Studies (ELMPA).  This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position. Reporting directly to the Department Chair/Program Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for curricular and administrative aspects of the undergraduate program. The Director of ELMPA will be involved in the activities of the graduate PA program at a reduced capacity. Anticipated start date is February 1, 2018.


Candidates for this position must demonstrate the ability and willingness to serve in an academic leadership capacity.



About the Physician Assistant Program:


The Physician Assistant Program is part of the School of Health Sciences which includes a comprehensive spectrum of health science programs. The School of Health Sciences joins the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and the School of Nursing in a new Center for Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences which provides an innovative, learner-centered environment. All three schools share a commitment to inter-professional education.

The Physician Assistant Program was established in 1994, graduating its first class in 1996.  We have Accreditation-Continued status by the Accreditation and Review Commission for Physician Assistant programs (ARC-PA). Our graduates continue to be very successful on PANCE and are able to consistently find employment in highly sought after positions.  Our physician assistant program was just named among the top five in America for 2016 Best Graduate Schools by U.S. News & World Report.

 Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for teaching and course coordination.  Course Coordination of 3 courses annually, at minimum. Carry an annual course load of 12 credit hours. 
  • Advisement of undergraduate ELMPA students
  • Participation in university service


 Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an advocate for the undergraduate pre-physician assistant students admitted into the ELMPA program, faculty, and the department
  • At the direction of the Department Chair/Program Director, provides leadership in the implementation of components of the department’s strategic plan
  • Supervise the faculty/coordinators as appropriate
  • Train new faculty in the didactic processes and curriculum of the ELMPA
  • Work with the Department Chair/Program Director to create individualized detailed job duties and position descriptions, that insure an equitable distribution of the work load for the didactic faculty and staff

Management of Program Operations:


  • Coordinate all aspects of the undergraduate ELMPA education component of the department
  • Work with the Department Chair/Program Director and Associate Chair to schedule all Undergraduate ELMPA specific courses
  • Coordinate and oversee the annual review, edits, dissemination, and training of the ELMPA Student Handbook and Policy Manual
  • Insure that all ELMPA program curricula and activities meets all required pre-requisites for the graduate PA Program and best prepares the ELMPA student for the graduate professional program
  • Review of all ELMPA curricular Goals and Objectives for currency in compliance with standards of care and practice,  department expectations and methods of evaluation and adherence to university policies and requirements (e.g. Title IX & ADA)
  • Evaluation and grading of all aspects of the ELMPA curriculum
  • Participate in activities that require all department participation
  • Coordinate at minimum of one Community Service Event
  • At the direction of the Department Chair/Program Director and Associate Chair, represent the ELMPA and graduate PA programs during recruitment events, welcome weekend, admitted students weekend and open houses

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

  • Masters degree 
  • Experience as a Physician Assistant or Physician (MD/DO) with current (eligible) licensure in the state of CT is required
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have proven teaching experience  with successful records as scholars and who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership through their service activities at the departmental, college/school, and/or University levels
  • Must be be certified by the NCCPA or ABMS/AOA specialty board
  • Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community
